Molasses Bran Brown Bread

Ingredients

  • 1 cup ready-to-eat bran
  • 1/2 cup seedless raisins
  • 2 tablespoon shortening
  • 1/2 cup dark molasses
  • 3/4 cup boiling water
  • 1 egg, beaten well
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

Directions

  1. Measure into bowl: bran, raisins, shortening, molasses.
  2. Add, stirring till shortening is melted: water.
  3. Add, mixing well: egg.
  4. Sift together, adding to molasses mixture, stirring, only until blended: flour, salt, soda, cinnamon.
  5. Fill two greased bean cans 2/3 full.
  6. Tie waxed paper over tops.
  7. Bake in 350f oven 45 minutes or spread batter in 8 x 8 inch square pan and bake in 350f.
  8. Oven about 35 minutes.
