Nut Cake

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 cup nut meats, chopped
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 3 eggs, separated
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 2 1/2 cup flour
  • a little salt

Directions

  1. Rub butter and sugar to a light, white cream.
  2. Add egg yolks and beat until smooth.
  3. Sift flour, salt and baking powder and add, together with milk, a little at a time, beating well.
  4. Fold in chopped nuts and stiffly beaten egg whites.
  5. Pour into 2 nine inch cake pans or 1 loaf pan.
  6. Bake in medium oven (350-f) for 30 minutes for layer cake or 1 hour for loaf cake.
  7. Use hickory nuts, black walnuts or shellbarks.
