Nonpareil Corn Bread

Ingredients

  • 2 cup corn meal
  • 1 cup flour
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon lard
  • 2 teaspoon white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Directions

  1. Beat the whites and yolks of the eggs separately and thoroughly; then melt the lard and add.
  2. Into the dry meal and flour mixed, sift the soda and cream-tartar, and add these to the eggs, lard, and milk.
  3. Beat vigorously.
  4. Bake in a quick and steady oven for thirty minutes.
