Gefilte Fish

Ingredients

  • 3 pound of fish, 3 kinds, such as salmon, sturgeon, halibut, or fillets of other fish
  • 2 carrots
  • 2 onions
  • 1 stalk celery, diced
  • salt
  • pepper
  • water
  • 1 large onion
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 slice white bread, soaked in water
  • 1 cup cold water
  • salt
  • pepper

Directions

  1. Remove skin and bones from fish.
  2. Set fish aside.
  3. Place skin, bones, carrots, onions, and celery in a kettle.
  4. Cover with cold water, season with salt and pepper and cook until vegetables are soft.
  5. Strain liquid.
  6. To make fish balls, put fish and the large onion through grinder, then place in bowl and add eggs, bread, water, and seasonings.
  7. Mix thoroughly.
  8. Form fish mixture into balls and cook in prepared liquid for one hour.
