Country Kitchen Brown Stew

Ingredients

  • 2 pound beef chuck, cut in cubes
  • 4 cup boiling water
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoon fat
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1 medium size onion
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 12 small potatoes
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 6 carrots, quartered
  • dash of allspice

Directions

  1. Thoroughly brown meat on all sides in hot fat, add boiling water, lemon juice, worcestershire sauce, garlic, onion, bay leaves, and seasonings.
  2. Simmer 2 hours.
  3. Stir occasionally to keep from sticking.
  4. Add carrots and potatoes (cubed potatoes may be used if desired).
  5. Continue cooking 20-30 minutes or until vegetables are done.
  6. Remove meat and vegetables.
  7. Thicken liquid for gravy.
