White Cake

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 2/3 cup sifted flour
  • 4 egg whites, beaten stiffly
  • 5 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 teaspoon lemon extract

Directions

  1. Cream the butter, add the sugar, and continue creaming for two minutes.
  2. Alternately add all the dry ingredients and the milk.
  3. Beat well.
  4. Cut and fold in the egg-whites.
  5. Add the flavoring.
  6. Bake in two buttered layer-cake pans, twenty-five minutes in a moderate oven.
  7. Cover with "c" sugar icing.
