Schnitz Un Knepp

Ingredients

  • 3 pound ham
  • 1 quart dried apples
  • 2 cup flour
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • 4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 tablespoon melted shortening

Directions

  1. Boil a 3 lb.
  2. Piece of ham for two hours.
  3. Pick over and clean 1 qt.
  4. Of dried apples; soak in enough water to cover.
  5. When meat has boiled for the stated time, add dried apples and water in which they have been soaking and continue to boil for another hour.
  6. Sift together the dry ingredients and mix the dough with egg, which has been well beaten, the melted shortening and the milk.
  7. Drop batter by spoonfuls into the boiling liquor of the ham and apples.
  8. Cover tightly and cook for 15 minutes.
  9. Raisins may be added if desired.
