Home-made Bread

Ingredients

  • 1 quart sifted flour
  • 1/2 pint milk
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cake yeast

Directions

  1. The flour is sifted carefully and into the centre is poured the yeast (1/2 cake), which has been previously mixed with a little water added to the half pint of lukewarm milk.
  2. Beat the sponge well and set to rise.
  3. When it becomes light, add sugar, butter and salt.
  4. Knead well and set to rise again.
  5. Bake in a moderate oven.
