Edge Hill Cake

Ingredients

  • 2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 4 eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 cup flour
  • 2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 egg whites, well beaten, for icing
  • 1 cup pulverized sugar, for icing
  • 1/2 cup water, for icing

Directions

  1. Cream butter and sugar; then add beaten yolks of eggs; next the milk.
  2. Mix baking powder and flour thoroughly together, and add flour and well-beaten whites of eggs alternately.
  3. Flavor with vanilla, and bake in three layer pans.
  4. Icing:.
  5. Boil sugar and water until the mixture hairs or strings from the spoon.
  6. When cool, add whites of eggs and flavor with vanilla.
