Brown Betty

Ingredients

  • 2 cup bread crumbs
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 4 apples
  • 2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • a little butter

Directions

  1. Grease a baking dish and line with a layer of sliced apples, sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar mixed.
  2. Then a layer of bread crumbs, with more cinnamon and sugar.
  3. Alternate apples and bread crumbs until the pan is filled, covering finally with bread crumbs.
  4. Small flakes of butter will make the pudding richer and, if you like, you may flavor with a little lemon juice.
  5. Bake in a moderate oven for forty-five minutes, keeping the dish covered until the last ten minutes of baking.
  6. Serve with hard sauce.
