Moravian Christmas Cookies

Ingredients

  • 1 pound brown sugar
  • 1 pound butter
  • 4 pound flour
  • 1 quart New Orleans cooking molasses
  • 1/2 ounce ginger
  • 1/2 ounce cloves
  • 1 ounce cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • 1 orange juice

Directions

  1. Mix all together, except the flour, being careful to heat enough to melt the butter.
  2. Then " work in " the flour.
  3. This makes a large quantity, as the cakes should be rolled very thin.
  4. Keep the cookies in a dry place, and they will be crisp and delicious as long as they last, even for months.
