Fig Sandwiches

Ingredients

  • brown bread
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 lemon
  • 1/4 pound seeded raisins
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 3/4 pound figs

Directions

  1. Cut brown bread in thin slices and spread with the following mixture: boil together rest of ingredients.
  2. Simmer till soft; add teaspoonful vanilla ; beat to a smooth paste and spread on bread.
  3. Alternate slices of brown and white bread, buttered and pressed closely together and cut transversely, make attractive sandwiches.
