Cherry Cobbler

Ingredients

  • 2 cup cherries, stemmed and pitted
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoon flour
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 2 tablespoon butter
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 6 tablespoon milk

Directions

  1. Mix the cherries, sugar, flour and salt.
  2. Allow to stand five minutes.
  3. Add the water.
  4. Pour the mixture into a deep glass or china baking dish.
  5. Mix and sift the flour, taking powder, salt and sugar.
  6. Cut in the butter with a knife.
  7. Add the milk, mixing until a soft dough is formed.
  8. Shape it with the hands to fit over the cherries.
  9. Make three slits in the dough to permit the steam to escape.
  10. Place in a moderate oven and bake for thirty minutes.
  11. Serve in the baking dish.
  12. Plain cream or whipped cream should be served with the cobbler.
