Butterscotch Rolls

Ingredients

  • 2 cup sugar, (1 pound)
  • 1/4 cup salt, (2 ounces)
  • 2 cup shortening, (1 pound)
  • 3 quart boiling water
  • 1 quart evaporated milk
  • 4 ounce compressed yeast
  • 13 quart flour, (13 pounds)
  • 2 1/2 quart brown sugar
  • 1 pound butter

Directions

  1. Follow instructions for rolls until second rising.
  2. After second rising, roll dough to 1/4 inch thickness.
  3. Brush with melted butter, sprinkle with brown sugar and raisins or chopped nuts.
  4. Roll as for jelly roll.
  5. Cut slices about 1 inch thick and place in pan that has been spread with a mixture of brown sugar and melted butter.
  6. About 2 1/2 quarts brown sugar and 1 pound butter will be required.
  7. Cover and let rise until doubled in bulk.
  8. Bake in a moderate oven (375f) about 25 minutes.
  9. Remove from pan as soon as baked.
