Butterscotch Rolls
Ingredients
- 2 cup sugar, (1 pound)
- 1/4 cup salt, (2 ounces)
- 2 cup shortening, (1 pound)
- 3 quart boiling water
- 1 quart evaporated milk
- 4 ounce compressed yeast
- 13 quart flour, (13 pounds)
- 2 1/2 quart brown sugar
- 1 pound butter
Directions
- Follow instructions for rolls until second rising.
- After second rising, roll dough to 1/4 inch thickness.
- Brush with melted butter, sprinkle with brown sugar and raisins or chopped nuts.
- Roll as for jelly roll.
- Cut slices about 1 inch thick and place in pan that has been spread with a mixture of brown sugar and melted butter.
- About 2 1/2 quarts brown sugar and 1 pound butter will be required.
- Cover and let rise until doubled in bulk.
- Bake in a moderate oven (375f) about 25 minutes.
- Remove from pan as soon as baked.
