Date Buns

Ingredients

  • 3 cup flour
  • 1/3 tablespoon butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1 yeast cake
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoon sugar
  • 2/3 cup dates

Directions

  1. Mix and sift the flour and the salt.
  2. Add the dates, which have been pitted and cut into small pieces.
  3. Mix with sugar the yeast cake (broken up).
  4. Heat the milk and add the butter.
  5. When the butter is melted, cool the milk mixture slightly, and add it to the yeast mixture, stirring carefully until the yeast is dissolved.
  6. Add the egg well-beaten to the milk mixture, and add this to the flour.
  7. Mix thoroughly and toss onto a well-floured board.
  8. Knead two minutes.
  9. Place in a warm place and allow to rise one hour.
  10. Divide into twelve pieces by cutting with a knife.
  11. Allow to rise ten minutes.
  12. Brush the tops with one tablespoon of egg to which has been added one tablespoon of milk.
  13. Bake twenty minutes in a hot oven.
