Cup Custard

Ingredients

  • 2 eggs
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cup milk
  • a few gratings of nutmeg
  • 4 tablespoon sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla

Directions

  1. Beat the eggs slightly, add the sugar and milk slowly.
  2. Add salt and flavoring.
  3. Stir well.
  4. Pour into well-buttered cups.
  5. Sprinkle the nutmeg gratings on the top.
  6. Set the cups in a pan of hot water and bake in a moderate oven until a knife comes out clean upon piercing the custard, about thirty-five minutes.
  7. Do not allow the water in the pan to boil.
  8. Serve the custard cold, removing from the cups just before ready to serve.
  9. The custards may be served in cups.
