Plain Pastry
Ingredients
- 2 quart flour, (2 pounds)
- 4 teaspoon salt
- 2 cup cold shortening, (1 pound)
- 2/3 cup cold evaporated milk
- 2/3 cup cold water
Directions
- Sift flour, then measure.
- Resift with salt.
- Work shortening into flour until appearance is like coarse corn meal.
- Add liquid and blend with a fork.
- Some flours absorb more liquid than others.
- Add only sufficient diluted milk to make dough soft enough to roll.
- Chill before using, if possible.
