Blitz Torte - Custard Filling

Ingredients

  • 5 1/2 cup flour
  • 2 yeast cakes
  • 3 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 cup milk, scalded and cooled
  • 1 cup lukewarm water
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup shortening, melted and cooled

Directions

  1. Prepare torte layers.
  2. To prepare custard, combine sugar, flour and salt.
  3. Gradually stir in milk.
  4. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly till bubbly.
  5. Cook and stir two more minutes.
  6. Remove from heat, stir small amount of hot mixture into egg.
  7. Immediately return to hot mixture.
  8. Cook one minute stirring constantly.
  9. Remove from heat and add vanilla.
  10. Cool well.
  11. Spread filling over bottom torte layer, and top with almond-sprinkled layer.
