Apple Dumplings

Ingredients

  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 4 apples
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoon lard
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

Directions

  1. Mix thoroughly the flour, baking powder and salt.
  2. Cut in the lard with a knife, and then add the water, mixing to a soft dough.
  3. Roll on a well-floured board to one-fourth of an inch in thickness.
  4. Wipe and pare the apples, and cut them in quarters.
  5. Cut the dough in four square pieces.
  6. Place four quarters of apple in the center of each piece of dough.
  7. Sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon.
  8. Moisten the edges of the dough with water.
  9. Bring the four corners of each piece up around the apple, pressing tightly together.
  10. Pierce with a fork to allow the escape of steam.
  11. Place each dumpling upside down on a floured tin, and bake thirty-five minutes in a moderate oven.
  12. Serve warm with cream.
