Potato Yeast Bread

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup water, , or milk and
  • 2 tablespoon sugar, or syrup
  • 4 tablespoon shortening
  • 4 cup boiled mashed potatoes
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 8 cup flour
  • 1/2 yeast cake
  • 1/4 cup lukewarm water, to soften yeast cake

Directions

  1. Mix in ordinary manner.
  2. The dough will be very stiff at first, but much thinner after first rising.
  3. Probably you will have better results if you make a sponge with the potatoes, liquid, and a part of the flour, first, and, when risen, add the remaining ingredients.
