OId Fashioned Coffee Cake

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Take the bread sponge, add the eggs well beaten, sugar, butter and water.
  2. Mix well together, then add enough flour to make a thin dough.
  3. Let it rise until double in size.
  4. Turn it on a board and roll it out an inch thick.
  5. Place it in a baking tin, cutting it to fit the tin, and let it rise again until light.
  6. Just before placing it in the oven, spread over the top with egg beaten with a teaspoonful of sugar.
  7. Sprinkle over this some granulated sugar, and a few split blanched almonds.
  8. If preferred, the dough may be twisted and shaped into rings instead of being baked in sheets.
