Brown Sugar Chocolate Cake



  1. Set oven for moderate, 350f.
  2. Grease and flour two 8-inch round cake pans.
  3. Sift together the first 4 ingredients.
  4. Cream shortening; add sugar gradually; beat until fluffy.
  5. Add eggs, one at a time: beat well after each addition.
  6. Stir in vanilla and chocolate.
  7. Add sifted dry ingredients, a little at a time, alternately with milk; stir only enough to blend well.
  8. Pour into pans.
  9. Bake 30 minutes or until top springs back when lightly touched with fingertip.
  10. Cool in pans 5 minutes.
  11. Remove; cool on a rack; frost.
