Boiled Fruit Pudding

  1. Sift the baking powder well through the flour, rub the butter thoroughly into this, and use cold milk enough to make a light dough.
  2. Roll this into a square about an inch thick, and spread it with fruit, leaving a margin of an inch all around.
  3. Wet the edges slightly, roll up and sew in a cloth which has been wrung out of hot water and well dredged with flour.
  4. Boil or steam one hour, and serve with cream and sugar, or hard sauce.
