Directions

  1. To prepare torte layers, cream together the butter and granulated sugar.
  2. Beat in the egg yolks, one at a time.
  3. Sift together the flour and baking powder and fold alternately with the milk into the mixture.
  4. Pour batter into two buttered round nine-inch pans.
  5. Make a meringue by beating the six egg whites until stiff.
  6. Gradually add the powdered sugar.
  7. Spread over the batter in the pans and sprinkle one with almonds.
  8. Bake at 350f for 20-25 minutes.
  9. When cool, remove layers from pans, placing the one without almonds on serving plate.
