Beef, Tomato and Cabbage Scallop

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef, or other lean meat
  • 2 tablespoon fat
  • 1/4 cup chopped onion
  • 1 cup chopped celery
  • 2 1/2 cup fresh or canned (No. 2 can) tomatoes
  • 2 teaspoon salt
  • pepper
  • 4 cup chopped or coarsely shredded cabbage
  • 1 cup soft bread crumbs

Directions

  1. Brown the meat in fat.
  2. Add onion and celery; cook 5 minutes.
  3. Add tomatoes, salt, and pepper : bring to boiling.
  4. Place alternating layers of cabbage and meat mixture in a baking dish.
  5. Top with bread crumbs.
  6. Bake in a moderately hot oven (375f) 40 to 45 minutes.
