A Delicate Cake

Ingredients

  • 1 pound sugar
  • 1 pound flour
  • 7 ounce butter
  • 6 egg whites
  • 1/2 grated nutmeg
  • a little lemon extract

Directions

  1. Beat the butter to a cream and stir into it the sugar and flour, then add the whites of eggs beaten to a froth, the grated nutmeg, and the lemon extract.
  2. Beat all well together and put into a tin lined with buttered paper.
  3. 5 or 6 ounces of powdered almonds may be added to this cake, according to your taste.
